# Difference between tris cl & tris HCL?

Hey Armstrong That’s a typical newbie dilemma … But we are here to resolve

- **Tris-Cl (Tris Hydrochloride):** Tris-Cl refers to a solution of Tris (tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane) base that has been titrated with HCl to a specific pH. It is used to maintain a stable pH in the solution where as,
- **Tris-HCl (Tris Hydrochloride):** Tris-HCl is a specific form of Tris that is already in the protonated form with HCl, making it a salt. It is commonly used to prepare buffers with a specific pH.
